“I will do whatever it takes because I love how it feels when I break the chains” Imagine Dragons
When you get to your desired destination, your emotions will often range from excited to crying (tears of joy of course). You might have to go through some hurdles before you reach the intended destination, however, it is an important part of the process. Nothing worth having in life comes easy, I bet you have heard that before. It is because this is a truth about life. Sometimes it might be hard to see past the challenges but with a little bit of determination and discipline you will get there.
The willingness to do whatever it takes to get to your destination is what will get you there. As the saying goes, “where there is a will, there is a way”. Once you make the decision to embark on your journey, saying goodbye to the familiar, committing to meeting and getting to know the unfamiliar is a requirement to get you closer to your goals. That is, the moment you decide not to turn back once you realize you need change because what you have been doing is not working out for you or you want better, you cannot expect to keep playing in the mud and stay clean.
This might require you to change your environment and the people you are spending time with. In some instances, be prepared to completely embrace the unknown to get the full benefits. Join the communities of people that are on the same path as you. You are not alone and spending time with other people with similar goals will encourage you and motivate you to keep pushing when times get hard. Do not overthink it, start right where you are, when you focus on your focus you will be surprised at how opportunities start to come up. Your sacrifices will not be for nothing; there are never losses, only learning.
It is also important to have an open mind regarding the different pathways to get to the final destination of reaching your goals. Even when you have a roadmap and vision, sometimes a better option may materialize that you had not seen at the beginning of your journey. Accepting that hardships will come and that you may have to re-strategize halfway through your journey will help you better adapt to obstacles encountered along the way. Having an open and realistic mindset will save you a lot of heartache.
Develop self-discipline, for motivation only lasts for but a moment and there will be times when you don’t feel like doing the thing you need to do. Those moments will be when you need discipline to kick in. Setting daily and weekly habits centered around your goals will create an atmosphere where you have the routine to keep you going even when your feelings are telling you otherwise. Create a schedule with your goals as a priority and commit to sticking with it no matter what.
Lastly, surround yourself with people who will encourage and cheer you on. They will see your blind spots and advise you accordingly. In this moment make a choice to go after the thing or things that you want, expect hardships and even embrace them and create the habits that will get you to your goals. Always remember to take care of yourself in the process.
